30 new Headspace centres – Minister Roxon announces on SYN radio
Thirty new Headspace mental health centres will be funded across Australia, including Collingwood and Bendigo.
Health Minister Roxon made the announcement on SYN youth radio today.
Mental health advocate John Mendoza called for funding for a hundred clinics, but Roxon says that the government can only increase these services at a rate the organisation can handle.
Headspace is an integrated health service, with counselling, drug and alcohol advice, education and work services available for young people. Staffed by GPs and allied health professional, the services are almost all free. Tens of thousands of young people in need have visited Headspace services since 2006.
