A Tale of Two Sister Cities
One of Melbourne’s “Sister Cities” is St Petersburg. The symbolic and diplomatic relationship may end by December, due to the Russian city’s anti-LGBTI “anti-propaganda laws.” The Melbourne City Council will decide whether the relationship should continue, or be suspended until the laws are repealed. The debate was largely sparked by a Change.org petition started by marriage equality advocate Carl Katter. Yara Murray-Atfield spoke to him about Melbourne’s ties with St Petersburg.
