Volunteers
SYN’s volunteers are the backbone of our organisation. They are all aged 12-25, and they take on jobs across nearly all facets of the media-making process: as producers, presenters, technical crew, promotions, music, reception, and web coordinators.
SYN has a group of key volunteers who take on the management of our cross-program activities (music, interviews, promotions, website) and who produce our flagship radio and TV programs (executive producers). They take on a role and title for one year, and they appoint and work with their own volunteer crew within their program or department team.
As well as these key volunteers, we have young people who take on roles for shorter periods of time, like presenting a radio show for one of our twelve-week program seasons. There are a range of opportunities and levels of commitment, because young people are busy people with other demands on their time and attention.
SYN volunteers are incredibly productive, always innovative, and maintain a fantastic culture of collaboration and participation.
Young people volunteer at SYN for a range of reasons: to build experience for media careers, as a hobby, to meet new people, because their mate’s doing it, or because they aren’t satisfied with what other media is offering them, and they think “I can do better”.
We enjoy a great volunteer culture at SYN, and we’re always open to new people. If you’re aged 12-25 and you want to get involved, head to the next SYN Info Session.
