Collarbones – SYN Approved artist for August
Tuesday, July 19th 2011 – Collarbones will be playing the SYN Approved gig on Thursday, August 11th, supported by Brothers Hand Mirror, Guerre and Franco Cozzo. The sample-based music duo are Sydney’s Marcus Whale (Cyst Impaled) and Adelaide’s Travis Cook (Scissor Lock). Together the two mix fragments from mainstream pop, R n’ B and an array of underground and local acts via the internet, then meet to perform them live.
After years creating music under their respective monikers, their minds collided online in 2007 to create Collarbones. And as a flesh-and-blood product of the internet, Collarbones experiment with Justin Bieber and underground tracks alike. Travis, one half of the duo, says: “Collarbones is what it sounds like when you stick a second-hand Rihanna CD into your stereo and it skips every now and again. You’re not sure whether you like it or not.”
If you’ve ever spent time browsing SoundCloud, or any of the wondrous music-collaboration sites found in the interwebs, you will be familiar with this bricolage-style of production in its glorious, instantaneous abundance. And you will know that Collarbones are pretty darn good at it.
Collarbones released their EP ‘Waiting for the Ghosts’ EP in June 2009, followed by ‘Tiger Beats’, a covers and remixes mixtape in January 2011 on bandcamp. They released their debut album ‘Iconography’ in March 2011 through Two Bright Lakes.
