Corsets are back in vogue

‘Training your waist’ is the current celebrity craze. Personalities like Kim Kardashian and Jessica Alba swear by their corsets, posting photos all over social media showing how the simple device has helped them to achieve their ‘ideal’ hourglass figure.
This is not a new phenomenon- women of the 18th and 19th centuries used corsets as part of their everyday attire to create a more ‘feminine’ body shape.
But do these devices have a place in the 21st century? Or are they simply a passing fad?
Reporter Tara Cosoleto spoke to Karen Webster, Associate Professor at RMIT University’s School of Fashion and Textiles, to learn more
