This week, our artist in Focus was Crystal Fighters, a band with influences from this area who use classical basque folk insruments and create a mix of dance, folk, indie and electronic music. Many of their songs use a txalaparta, a wooden xylophone-like percussion instrument played by two people standing face-to-face. They also use the danbolin (a rope-tuned snare drum), and the txistu (a Basque pipe whistle). The band’s members include Sebastian Pringle, Gilbert Vierich, Graham Dickson, Mimi Borelli and Laure Stockley and they formed after Laure found an unifinished opera of his crazed father after he died.
Crystal Fighters are currently touring UK and Europe but will be coming to Australia to play in Parklife in Perth,Adelaide, Sydeny, Melbourne and Gold Coast.
