Day 1 + 2: Work Experience @ SYN
I’m nearing the end of my second day completing Work Experience at SYN. I’ve spent most of my time so far in the House of SYN, although I’ve also had the chance to sit in on a couple of shows as well.
The first day kicked off with some data entry, which was my first taste of what it’s like to do a lot of the same kind of work over and over again. It was pretty cool to see what goes on behind SYN – the work also included sending membership cards to the new members, and it reminded me of the first time I received my membership card. Now I know all the work that goes into sending that one little card. (Okay, admittedly it wasn’t that much work, but it adds up!)
After that, I went to the studio and helped Maritah with Blind Insight, since her producer and co-host were both absent. I had expected to sit in a corner and watch quietly, but I ended up panelling and presenting too. It was pretty nervewracking at first, since I haven’t panelled in a long time, but I got used to it pretty quickly, and we managed to fill up the hour and a half. Then I returned to the House and finished off the rest of the data entry work, and that was it for the first day.
Today, I first went to the studio to sit in with Croxton and Warringa Park Schools, just to see how they run the program. At 12, I got to work filling in a review for Get Cereal’s show this morning, which I reckon will help me when I’m back on air doing shows with Objection, because honestly, I never really thought about half of the things that the review asked me to consider. After a quick break, I returned to the House of SYN to write Christmas postcards for Emma (after hunting for the perfect pen with which to do so) and now here I am, writing this blog for the first time. Now to twiddle my thumbs for seven minutes.
