Dellavedova Breaks Gaels Record
The accolades keep on rolling for Australian Matthew Dellavedova as the Senior from St Marys Gaels made another school record his own. Last week, in the Gaels’ 78-62 win over Yale, Dellavedova hit four shots from beyond the arc to become the schools all-time leader in 3-pointers made with 239, one more than former record holder David Sivulich. And if this wasn’t enough for the Maryborough native, he also became the schools fourth all-time leading scorer (he currently sits on 1626 overall), moving ahead of Diamon Simpson and 248 behind all-time leader and former Australian Daniel Kickert.
So far this season, Dellavedova has averaged 17.4PPG (75th in the nation), and with half a season still remaining, with the added possibility of an appearance at the big dance, Dellavedova is on track to break Kickert’s record and become one of the most successful Australian college basketballers of all time. Not that Delly would be thinking about that though.
To go along with his excellent perimeter shooting, Dellavedova also holds the Gaels record for most career assists with 637.
This season, helped considerably by his debut Olympics campaign in London last year, Dellavedova has really taken a step in the right direction and has put his name and his game in the lime light. If he can finish off this season the way he has started it, Dellavedova’s name will be remembered for a long time to come in Moraga.
