Do The Lions Have The Blues?
Is it happening again? For all Brisbane supporters, let’s hope not. The Lions took the field in the pre-season dominating the competition to receive their first silverwear since 2003. Though their round one appearance was not as memorable and the team who dominated early seemed as if they had run out of steam before the important stuff have begun. The woeful Lions were demolished by a club who it seems unlikely to be taking part in the finals this year which only diminishes any further hope in their supporters eyes. 19.13.127 to 7.17.59, the Bulldogs ran all over the lions, beating them in disposals, Kicks, handballs, clearances, inside 50s, contested possession and hit outs. Though it was not the fact the lions were beaten it was by how much and who by which really is the worry. The bulldogs are a club who have not made finals since 2010 and are unlikely to be involved again in 2013. With their regular stars dominating such as Griffin and Cooney the Dogs trampled what looked so promising only two weeks earlier. Improvements to young stars such as Dixon, Wallis, Liberatore and Dahlhaus took charge as the Lions were unable to answer back. Though it was the Lions who looked so impressive only a fortnight ago. Especially in Daniel Rich who it seemed was about to embark on becoming the most dominate figure in the Brisbane midfield looked disturbingly disappointing. The young lion who is now in his 5th season only managed 8 disposals. I know it’s only round one but this all looks as if it has happened before. Hopefully the Lions don’t end up as Carlton did in 2005 and 2007 after they won the early glory. Will the lions look upon this and move on and give Adelaide a run for their money? Or will they crumble? Only time will tell. Peter Tseros
