Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls

In this episode of SDG, Dom examines gender equality and the empowerment of women

Within the developing world, there are 96 girls for every 100 boys in primary schooling, and 95 for every 100 in secondary. Though disparities have narrowed, gaps at a tertiary level remain high. Additionally, the share of women performing paid work in areas outside of agriculture are as low as 20% in some regions, and those that do gain employment often find it in vulnerable forms. Globally, the share of females in parliament, though rising, is still as low as 19%, the gains often made thanks to quotas and other special measures.
