This is a a sociological radio documentary unpacking what self expression through fashion is all about. I want to take listeners (young people) on a journey learning from others about what fashion and self expression means to them. The mainstream fashion industry has increasingly used self-expression and diverse identities as a commodity to further their brand. So for young people, particularly young people who are queer, gender diverse, people of colour, ‘plus-sized’, it can be a tumultuous journey understanding self expression through fashion with an industry that may see their identities either ignored or tokenised.

The Jingle
with Martin Ditmann & Lloyd Connolly
9:00 – 9:30 Wednesday January 3 – 29

The Jingle will explore the history of consumer Australia. Our mission would be to tell this story through seventies, eighties and nineties advertising. Each segment would focus on a different area of consumer Australia – for example the rise of the new era of telecommunications. That segment, for example, would look at different advertising media to tell the story of communications in Australia and be a bouncing point for us as the hosts. Our audience would be young people interested in history, consumer affairs, and an evolving Australian society.

Tell Me Something I Don’t Know is a comedic conversational show, were the hosts ask and discuss little known facts, tidbits and trivia that just might change the way you look at the world. For example a segment might consist of a host asking the question; why don’t pigeons like going to the movies?/Who is the Best Boy and why is he the best?/What is the meaning behind the name Cesar. After discussing the question the host then elaborates the factual answer to the question.

Historically Speaking
with Alex Frame & Andrew Kelso
17:00 – 18:00 Friday January 5 – 26

As the name would suggest, Historically Speaking is a program that aims to examine, expose and celebrate different facets of Melbourne’s history. Each week, Alex and Andrew tackle another area of our city’s past – everything from, Sport to Art, Crime to Society – throughout every era, including the prehistory, Indigenous history, the early colonial history, the Gold Rush and the Twentieth Century. The hour-long episode would be broken into various regular and featured segments, interviewing historians, archaeologists and prominent figures, and with a particular focus on bizarre, lesser-known or obscure events in Melburnian history. However, although the show would be rudimentary based on fact and academia, it is intended to have a jovial tone, with plenty of entertaining regular segments to convey the information in an appealing format, ie. ‘Things That Don’t Exist Anymore’, ‘What Have We Learnt from History’, and ‘Alex and Andrew Relive The Past’.
