Illegal Fishing sending marine mammals into extinction

Illegal fishing in Mexico’s Gulf of California has led to the near extinction of the vaquita porpoise.

These illegal methods are also a serious issue in Australia, with ‘no-net zones’ being introduced into Queensland waters to prevent the unnecessary killing of various marine species.

But how effective are these protection measures?

Reporter Sammy Beniac-Brooks investigates.
