Thousands of young people across the country are worse off after the Federal Government failed to address a shortfall of funding for community digital radio services in last night's budget.


Melbourne youth-run community media organisation SYN Media is just one of the 37 community stations who risk losing digital services as a result of the $1.4 million gap.

SYN Media are hitting the road to show the power of giving young people media platforms in regional areas.

 

With the support of the Victorian Government's Be Heard program, SYN is travelling to Bendigo to hold a youth engagement forum on April 18th. The forum will assist local community radio stations, youth workers, community groups and others working in similar fields to create media opportunities for young people in regional Victoria.

Thirty one young people were recognised for their outstanding contributions to media last night at a pirate-themed SYN Awards, an event held annually to celebrate the exceptional talent of Australia's young media makers.

Among the winners was Georgia Moodie, contributor to SYN’s flagship arts show Arts Mitten, who picked up two awards for her outstanding feature on Bangarra Dance Theatre’s production of Terrain.
