The Night Parrot is Back!
Ladies and Gentleman, the Night Parrot is back!!! (Well to be honest it probably never left to start with) but we now know for certain that the Night Parrot is still alive and it’s here in the Kimberley!
What is the Night Parrot?
Well I’m glad you asked, according to the keeper of all information, Wikipedia: The night parrot (Pezoporus occidentalis) is a small parrot endemic to the continent of Australia. It is well known as being one of the most elusive and mysterious birds in the world… …A relatively small and short-tailed parrot, the species’ colour is predominantly a yellowish green, mottled with dark brown, blacks and yellows. Both sexes have this coloration. It is distinguished from the two superficially similar ground parrot species by its shorter tail and different range and habitat. Predominantly terrestrial, taking to the air only when panicked or in search of water.
Nigel Jacket is from the Broome Bird Observatory and he was on the trip that helped re-discover the bird in WA, Dylan interviewed him about how important this discovery is to the bird-watching community.
