NOMINEES FOR THE SYN BOARD
Taymi Brook – Nominated for Ordinary Board Member
I am passionate opportunity, community and networks for youth – therefore, I’m applying to join SYN’s Board of Governance. I hope to further SYN as a leader in community broadcasting, to ensure all SYN volunteers have access to the opportunities and resources I’ve had access to throughout my volunteering.
I joined SYN in February, 2021. I’ve volunteered for flagships such as The Naughty Rude Show, Sunday Sweets and New and Approved. I’ve also been part of SYN’s Leadership Program, where I served as 2022’s Talks Lead for 1700 as we transitioned offline and into a new format co-produced with RMITV.
I know the value of being a SYN member; having completed SYN’s Board Internship, undertaking SYN’s Mentoring Program, and completing training with the Community Media Training Organisation’s National Youth Leadership and Professional Development program (Take It On) – training presented to me through SYN. I’ve attended conferences and seminars run by industry professionals in areas such as disability/accessibility, community media/broadcasting, cultural diversity, music industry and career pathways due to my SYN membership.
As someone who was prevented from joining SYN due to accessibility barriers, I hope to bring a perspective of inclusion and build on the previous board’s work at addressing obstacles which deter youth from joining SYN. Being an approachable person with a strong sense for improvement, I hope to facilitate and advocate for my peers.
Thank you for considering my nomination and I look forward to the potential of contributing to SYN’s Board of Governance.
Grace Mckinnon – Nominated for Ordinary Board Member
