Oscar + Martin to play May SYN Approved

Melbourne duo Oscar + Martin will play the ‘SYN Approved Series’ – a Student Youth Network (SYN) initiative – on May 12. Their minimalist hip-hop sound has been likened to Love Connection and Seekae. They will be supported by Wooshie and Brothers Hand Mirror.
Oscar + Martin are Oscar Slorach-Thorn and Martin King, formerly of Psuche. Their wonky beats are playful with R&B hooks and childlike lyrical sentiments. Combine this with minimalist hip-hop drum elements and you’ve got a refreshing dose of direct, honest tracks that go straight to the nostalgia cortex.
After launching their EP in late 2010, they have been gaining a steady following, playing with acts such as Coco Rosie, Caribou, Four Tet and 2010 favourites, Kyu. Having just released single ‘Do The Right Thing’ in early March, they are due to release their debut album, For You through Two Bright Lakes on April 15, 2011.
What is SYN Approved?
The SYN Approved Series is a monthly initiative that highlights new and upcoming Australian artists. In addition to playing a SYN Approved Gig, the artist is interviewed on SYN radio program, The Hoist, and SYN TV’s Channel 31 program 1700, as well as being promoted through social media.
Previous SYN Approved artists include Seagull, Rat Vs Possum, Eagle and the Worm, T A N T R U M S, Alpine, White Woods and The Frowning Clouds.
