Plans, Panels and the April Workshop

We set a pretty mammoth task for our Young Media Leaders to complete in four days over the course of the April workshop – write up a full project plan for their Media Hubs and present it to our panel of community radio heavyweights; Kath Letch, Bryce Ives and Adrian Basso.

Needless to say, it was a learning curve for all the Young Media Leaders who worked tirelessly in and out of workshop hours to complete their plans with the help of their mentors and our presenters. With workshops on project planning, budgets and legals, marketing and communication, grant writing, and community mapping, the Young Media Leaders were shown through each step of project development by media and arts professionals like Claire Stuchbery, Danae Gibson, Kath Letch, Joe Toohey and Jackie Doran.

The YML’s had 10 minutes to present their project plans to the panel and, without fail, blew away our panel members. With such varied objectives coming from each project plan, it became clear just how diverse our partnering stations are and how dedicated, diligent and brilliant our Young Media Leaders will be in achieving those aims.

Over the course of the wprkshop, all of the YML’s found new ways of doing things and picked up tips on effectively organising projects that will aid them hugely as they now head back to their local areas and begin to recruit volunteers and implement plans for their Media Hubs.
