Screamway is love, Screamway is life

Back at the start of the year, I remember my friend Sam came up with the idea of doing a radio show. He suggested I do a heavy music show and we could call it Screamway on 3WAY-FM. At first, the idea of being on the radio was pretty daunting, and I wasn’t so sure, but then he suggested we apply for a spot on the digital radio station SYN Nation. This way, we could record the show in the studios and upload it and it would broadcast in Melbourne and stream on the internet. It was so cool!! The very first time I got to the studios, I was so excited, until I had to start recording.. Then I started giggling like a maniac and even though is written I all down I didn’t know what to say. After a few gos, I finally started to get the hang of it, and a few weeks later, it felt like I’d been doing it forever. The next thing was for me to learn about paneling, using Zara (the playlist software) to record and doing the play list all on my own. Recently, Screamway has been live, which at first I was terrified to do but now I’ve found it is really a lot of fun and I can’t believe what a wuss I was!! I really enjoy doing Screamway, and it has become a surprisingly big part of my life. It has allowed me to really expand my knowledge of the music I love as well as share my favourite bands with other people. I’ve found that when I go to see bands or listening to music in general, I’m thinking about it all the time; how I can incorporate the experience into one of my shows, where one of the songs could for into Screamway. I find that I am always trying to think of new ways to improve it, to make it better and reach more people whether that be live or digitally. Having my own radio show is something I’ve always wanted to do, but never knew how to get my foot into the door, or where to go to find out about doing one. I’m so grateful to have been given the opportunity to learn so much about hosting a show as well as panelling and recording. If it wasn’t for Sam encouraging to step outside my comfort zone and try something new, and SYN Nation and 3WAY-FM for making the possibility for hosting my very own show a reality, I’d have never thought this would be possible!
