The Hoist…Unplugged is back for another month with a brand new line up that will blow your socks off!

This event will also be combined with this year’s SYN end-of-year bash, so you’ll get a chance to rub shoulders with all the SYNlebrities!

Local bands The Scarecrows and The Fearless Vampire Killers take to the stage Friday December 17th for exclusive sets at Signal, the City of Melbourne youth space between 6 and 9pm.

Signal are always keen to open up their doors to young music lovers. They know that listening to good music is just the way we like to do it here in Melbourne, regardless of age.

Kicking off the night will be The Scarecrows. Fresh onto the Melbourne music scene, these guys are what The Hoist Unplugged is all about, giving awesome emerging bands the support and exposure they deserve. Headlining the gig are local favs The Fearless Vampire Killers. With their eclectic mix of 60s pop, surf rock, and hint of bluesy/country roots in their guitars, these guys are guaranteed to get you dancing and sweaty.

With support from City of Melbourne’s youth space, SIGNAL, and their Friday night programming series, SYN local music program The Hoist will host a bunch of up and coming Melbourne bands the third Friday of every month.

To kick off this all ages, drug, smoke and alcohol free event are locals Wilfred Jackal and Radio Star.

Wilfred Jackal (www.myspace.com/wilfredjackal) have been described as “…fusing the stadium-sized emotion of early U2 with the quirkiness of Split Enz, the boys make music that is unashamedly pop,”The Weekly Review.

Radio Star (www.myspace.com/theradiostarband) join them onstage “four boys from a little country town” – but they’re so much more than that! Their EP, Goodbye, Goodnight is doing the rounds and getting great reviews. “Mixing an old school 80’s rock sound with modern day indie-pop,” Rave Review.

Surf/rock/punk and everything-in-between Death Valley Band (www.myspace.com/deathvalleyband1) have been described as “having a sound…that draws you in and makes you think you could be in a Tarantino film.”

Up-and-comers Brighter at Night (www.myspace.com/brighteratnight) just recently won “Best Pop Rock Track” at the 2010 Kool Skools Award for their song “When Repetition Repeats, Repeat” and lead singer, Rachael Gutsi, scooped up the award for “Best Female Vocalist” in Victoria.
