Student Privacy Online

With appropriate precautions and permissions, posting student work online does not pose unacceptable risks. It is vital that today’s young people learn to negotiate and responsibly manage self-protective behaviours in using the internet.
Vidfest offers a well-managed way of participating on the internet as positive, collaborative learning. Rather than just being ‘out there’ in the virtual world , Vidfest sits within the well-established and highly regarded SYN youth media community.
It is possible to make your Vidfest page hidden or private, so it is not visible to people browsing the SYN website. It will only be accessible by someone who has been invited with the direct URL link.
When you register to do Vidfest in your classroom, you can indicate a preference to make your Vidfest ‘private’ and it won’t be discoverable in lists of Vidfests.
We’ve prepared a parent permission form template for use before creating a Vidfest. This form gains parent/guardian consent for their child’s participation in the program and for publishing their videos.
