Students protest against Pyne’s higher ed reforms

HUNDREDS of students and supporters have rallied across the country in a national protest against the federal government’s higher education reforms.

Protesters gathered outside the State Library in Melbourne’s CBD on Wednesday, just after 2pm.

Education Minister Christopher Pyne’s attempts to deregulate university fees were blocked by the senate for the second time in a month last week, but there are still concerns about plans for reform following his comment on SKY News last week that he had “fixed” the situation.

President of the National Union of Students Rosie Steel told SYN News they will continue to fight the proposal.

“Four out of five people disagree with this policy so we’re going to keep coming back to protest,” she said.
