omg i totally agree there is WAYYYY too much pressure on young girls to be skinny, its REALLY STUPID. JUST BE HAPPY WITH WHO YOU ARE ND WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE COS YOU DONT HAVE TO BE SKINNY TO BE BEAUTIFUL!
Danielle - Thursday 15th of November, 2007
What is this world coming to? Why are we doing this to ourselves? Don't we at least love ourselves? When ever I see a papper thin chick, I want to get sick. I believe that alot of muscle and a tiny bit of fat looks sexy, so why look like aliens from a diffrent planet?

I think that excessively thin models have bad effects on the self esteem of normal , healthy weight teenagers and average size girls should be modelling. I have been to an eating disorder clininc and seen how bad the situation can get.. with one girl i met being hospitalised 7 times in 6 months, Something must be done to encourage normal size girls 2 learn self respect for their bodies!!!
Kier - Monday 18th of June, 2007
I think skinny models advertising clothes is ridiculous. Girls need to know that being skinny isn't everything. When we hear of girls dying of starvation or lying in a hospital bed for weeks it puts pressure on us to be skinnier than we are. The media should think about what their doing before they go and brain wash tennage girls.
Yolanda - Tuesday 15th of May, 2007
I think that the size of these models are outragiously discusting. Young girls like myself, even though I dont persinally look up to models, but other teenagers do. I think that if they are too skinny it will damage their bodys and if other girls do it, they could be doing some serious damage!:O
Stop loosing weight! Be hapy with the body your in!
Annie Warren - Tuesday 15th of May, 2007
Use normal size models for god sake! There is too many young teenages that I know who are effected by eating disorders and I think its really sad! Get normal sized models!! laters!
Sarah Crow - Tuesday 15th of May, 2007
I think young girls who believe in being extremly skinny is wrong.
They can still stay skinny by eating right and exercising. If they just eat lettuce or nothing at all they can damage their body (bones, Muscles). But I think the main reason they don't eat is the medias fault. They publish pictures of unusally skinny women to make people think you're ment to look like this.
Girls who are already skinny and healthy see pictures of models and think "Wow I'm fat" and do what ever they can to lose more wait.
Dru - Tuesday 15th of May, 2007
I think that it is stupid when girls try to be skinny like some of the models and I think they are a bad influence on young girls. They should use normal sized models to prove that being skinny isn't everything and you don't have to be skinny to look good or for guys to like you.
Emily Hodges - Tuesday 15th of May, 2007
Teenage girls are seeing these skinny models in magazines and on TV. These girls suddenly think I have to be that skinny, I think models should be a regular and healthy size unlike some of the outrageously thin models today.
When teenage girls see these models they start skipping meals and trying to be as thin as these models. This isn't good for their body and it is not healthy. If they want to be thinner they should eat healthier and exercise but not too much so it doesn't become an addiction. Skinny Models are not a good role model for young teenagers.
Chantelle - Tuesday 15th of May, 2007
i'm not happy a all because skinny models are a bad influnece on young girls.

I hear you binged afterwards. Stu said; "Will ate 3 burgers and half a pizza and i had a burger and the other half of the pizza..we couldn't move afterwards lol"
-crazy!
Bree - Saturday 17th of March, 2007
Stu also did 48 hours on just apples (and a coffee!).
Going to the school to interview the school students was a great move. They were fantastic.
But no, there is no way I could imagine living on so little for anything longer than 48 hours. I don't think it can be done without health implications.
Will - Friday 16th of March, 2007
It was interesting listening to the high school girls talking about their views on the girls in magazines.
And what dedicated reporters - Will and Stu! Will survived on nothing but lettuce and diet coke for 48 hours and put together a radio segment at the same time! Not an easy task. A question for the guys... can you imagine living on that diet for a long period of time?

Hungry as hippos?
Issues in the News takes a look at skinny models and what effect they have on the body image of young girls. Stu and Will also put their stomach on the line to see what a "skinny model" diet is like.
Issues also talks to a young 16 year old model who has worked at the latest Melbourne Fashion Show. Kate also has an opinion piece on photoshopping.
This issue of Issues in the News is so packed, it almost needs to go on a diet of its own!
Production: Will and Stu
