Value for money?
It seems that Melbourne is obsessed with hosting major events. Do they create economic benifits and international exposure, or are they a waste of money?

Good point Craig. The popularity of the Grand Prix is definately dwindling (...is that even a word?)
Should taxpayers fund these kinds of events, which only seem to appeal to a "niche" market?
On the other hand... (as our car enthusiast remarked) "you can't please everybody all the time".
Is a "user-pays"system a viable alternative? If everyone only paid for what everybody was going to use, could events like this take place?
