thehoist-1.jpg

The Hoist is back for 2015 and we are hitting your radio waves for 2 HOURS Monday to Thursday from 6pm! Since we are spending so much more time with you this year, we wanted you to get to know our fabulous hosts a bit better!

So without further ado, our team for Season 1!

TASH ZIRAFI – MONDAY NIGHT HOST

You can catch me during the day…

I love markets, they’re filled with creativity & the best produce! I also highly enjoy dumplings, my favourite food! So if you don’t find me in a market or at my local dumpling store then I will be with my cat and boyfriend!

Favourite Australian band/Artist?

That’s a hard one! I’m going to do both categories because I can! My favourite band would have to be The Jezabels and favourite artist is Megan Washington. I had the absolute pleasure of witnessing their talent live at GTM in 2011!

Best Aussie tune of 2014?

This was also hard! There were so many good tunes. I believe Sheppard with Geronimo would have been worn out the most on my Ipod!

Kylie Minogue’s greatest song?

I’m going to go with ‘ Love At First Sight.’ That eyeshadow, those K earrings and multi pocket pants! I can’t get enough of this song.

If I was in a band…

‘My cat and I’ and we would make really weird demands like skittles in the bath tubs and everyone can have Wednesdays off. I don’t think we would make it far in the industry!

CHLOE WATSON – MONDAY NIGHT HOST

You can catch me during the day…

Trying to break into the publishing industry, getting sweaty at festivals or reading a book with a cuppa.

Favourite Australian band/Artist?

British India. I once accidentally bought tickets to an interstate festival because of them.

Best Aussie tune of 2014?

‘Secret Enchanted Broccoli Forrest’ by the Babe Rainbow.

Kylie Minogue’s greatest song?

 ‘Confide in Me’.

If I was in a band…

I’d a yet to be named psychedelic/shoegaze band and I would play bass. I’d have a menacing on stage stare.

BETH WARE – TUESDAY NIGHT HOST

You can catch me during the day…

Drinking collosal amounts of coffee to fuel my major coffee addiction.

Favourite Australian Band/Artist?

Hmm, Vance Joy!

Best Aussie tune of 2014?

Hiltop Hoods – Cosby Sweater

Kylie Minogue’s greatest song?

Gotta go with Can’t Get You Out Of My Head because I can remember dancing around my living room to it when I was 6

If I was in a band…

We would be called Beware and we would be a hip hop group that wore our pants backwards like kriss kross and I would stand in the background and play the triangle.

JULIAN GASPARRI – TUESDAY NIGHT HOST

You can catch me during the day…

Listening to music and over selling my new Journalism degree. The rest happens at night.

Favourite Australian Band/Artist?

John Butler Trio/Ngaiire

Best Aussie tune of 2014?
Narrowing it down to one song is a bit onerous, so I’ll pick two records. Hayden Calnin – ‘Oh, Hunter’ John Butler Trio – ‘Flesh and Blood’

Kylie Minogue’s greatest song?
No.

If I was in a band…

I wouldn’t be in a band. I’m more of a Beyonce myself.

SEONAID DRUMMOND – WEDNESDAY NIGHT HOST

You can catch me during the day…

Loitering around RMIT city campus & occasionally attending classes for my Media degree.

Favourite Australian band/artist?

Chet Faker, Northeast Party House & RUFUS (I can’t pick just one!)

Best Aussie tune of 2014?

Feed The Rhythm – Client Liaison

Kylie Mingoue’s greatest song?

Can’t Get You Out Of My Head

If I was in a band…

I’d be an awkward bassist in an emo synth pop band. We’d be called The Solitary Groovers.

BETHANY ATKINSON-QUINTON – THURSDAY NIGHT HOST

You can catch me during the day… – (ie: studying Arts at Monash, making coffees etc)
Hanging around the community radio traps teaching and making radio, studying drama and pouring froffies

Favourite Australian Band/Artist-
Hmm so hard to pick just one.. Jen Cloher, GL, Peter Bibby, Jim Lawrie, New Gods, The Finks

Best Aussie tune of 2014?-
New Gods- Millionaire
Big Smoke- Colours
The Harpoons- Ring Ring
Laura Jean- First Love Song

Kylie Minogue’s greatest song?-
I did go to the Kylie Minogue concert when i was in primary school with my dad and had a bloody good time but not sure of my fav song.

If I was in a band…- (ie: we would be called MC Bitchez, we would play psychadelic hip hop and I would play tamborine)
We’d be called Subtle Buzz (name taken from Made’s fabulous brain at an All The Best Pitch Party) and we’d subtlety get everyone buzzing.

BRIDGET HUSTWAITE – EXECUTIVE PRODUCER, THE HOIST

You can catch me during the day…
If I’m not in my dressing gown, I’m putting together crazy flight itineraries, booking amazing tours across the world and dealing with visa’s and insurance – yeah bby, I’m a full time travel agent!

Favourite Australian Band/Artist?
Northeast Party House. I first heard of them in 2011 when a chump I went to high school was directing one of their music videos and asked me to be in it. DAMN YOU VISUAL MERCHANDISING ASSESSMENT WEEK. Anyway, they are insane live and whilst I fear for my life at every show due to the hell intense mosh/dance pit, they are so worth any potential injuries and/or bruises.

Best Aussie tune of 2014?
The Griswolds – Beware The Dog

WE USED TO GOOOOO WHERE THE COOL KIDS GOOOOO

Kylie Minogue’s greatest song?
I’m just gonna say Chocolate because I like chocolate.

If I was in a band…
We would be called MC Bitchez. Because that is what we were at SYN camp and we OWNED IT.

KELVIN UNG – ASSISTANT, THE HOIST

You can catch me during the day…
Chilling out, maxing, relaxing. Working (hopefully, still a trainee), usually just at home surfing the web, checking out Reddit, marathoning through episodes of this and that.

Favourite Australian Band/Artist?
It’ll change depending on mood, the time of day, the position of the moon the night sky. At this particular point in time I’ll go for the four-piece from Brissy, Major Leagues.

Best Aussie tune of 2014?
Ohhh man, I’m bloody loving Sunshine by Flight Facilities

Kylie Minogue’s greatest song?
Can’t Get You Out of My Head. Absolutely no question. Great video as well, I won’t get into it but as a young boy that music video was a transformative experience

If I was in a band…
We would be called Dame Judy Drench we would play straight up punk pop. I would play rhythm guitar and provide backing vocals. None of this lead stuff for me.
