The new voices of Gippsland!

Well, this was pretty great.

Last month, one of SYN’s ol’ faithful radio trainers Bethany Atkinson-Quinton and the National Youth Media Project Coordinator, Josie Smart, head out to Morwell to have a catch up with the awesome new lot of volunteers involved in the Gippsland Media Hub. And the result: an awesome day of radio training and getting this team of fabulous young people excited about making radio for Gippsland FM and SYN Nation!

Totally planned and organised by one of the SYN Nation Young Media Leaders, Bianca Gawith, we talked about the best ways to put radio programs together, the do’s and don’ts of presentation, content ideas and multi-platform approaches to media-making! This training session was just one in a trianing series Bianca has put together down in Gippsland to get more young voices on the airwaves in that area. All of the participants are new to the radio-making game, and each have decided to get involved for a manifold of reasons and come from all over the Gippsland region!

Bianca, who was a participant in the National Youth Media Project leadership and mentoring program last year, was successful in applying for a grant last November, which means she now has a paid position at Gippsland FM to engage young people in community radio! She’s reinvigorating the Media Hub with all sorts of enthusiasm, and it looks like we’ll be hearing some more content from these rad Gippsland folk on the SYN Nation airwaves pretty soon!
