The Townhouses: November SYN Approved artist
Are you into beautiful music? Then you should probably come and see The Townhouses play SYN Approved on Thursday, November 10. He will be supported by The Parking Lot Experiments, Denim Owl, and Rainbow Chan.
When someone tells you that you should hear the work of a Melbourne producer who is creating some really nice, world-inspired music with lyric-less lo-fi vocals, then they’re probably referring to The Townhouses. And they probably know what they’re talking about, because the sound is sublime. That’s why we picked The Townhouses as our November SYN Approved artist.
The Townhouses, aka solo Melbourne producer Leigh Hannah, has been gently mastering the art of the effortless, day-dream-inspiring track since 2009. His mix ofambient soundscapes with both acoustic and electric world instruments samples would be welcomed by most ears on the planet. And Leigh’s interest in ethnomusicology has ensured that his samples transport you beyond Australian shores.
The Melbourne talent has been recognised through widespread radio play and some prestigious support opportunities with internationals Toro Y Moi, Pantha Du Prince and Seaworthy, as well as former SYN Approved artists Alpine and Oscar + Martin.
He released his sophomore album ‘Backyard’ in February this year, following on from Mini-LP ‘Islands’ in 2010, and a string of EPs starting in 2009.
What is SYN Approved?
The SYN Approved Series is a monthly initiative that highlights new and upcoming Australian artists. In addition to playing a SYN Approved Gig, the artist is interviewed on SYN radio program, The Hoist, and SYN TV’s Channel 31 program 1700, as well as being promoted through social media.
