As part of SYN's education and training program, we run a range of workshops and learning events for students and teachers. In 2010, these workshops and events include:

Signal Workshop Series

SYN is teaming up with Signal to run a workshop program for young people aged 13 to 20 years. Find out more about Signal and the Signal workshop series.

Media Learning Week: 6 - 10 September

Every year SYN runs Media Learning Week (MLW) at the State Library of Victoria. MLW is a program of teacher professional development sessions focusing on youth engagement, media education and digital literacy. Stay tuned for more information about SYN Media Learning Week.

Throughout the school year, SYN hosts a range of schools workshops for students throughout Victoria. SYN offers podcasting and video-blogging workshops which can be held at schools or at the House of SYN. The workshops are run by experienced SYN trainers and the podcasts and videos produced in the workshops are included on the SYN website. SYN's workshop participants can learn skills in audio and video production, digital storytelling and hear tips from young journalists working in the media industry. SYN has partnered up with a number of schools and organisations to run workshops for young people. Latest workshop:

Signal Young Journo series with Chris Stubbs

Chris Stubbs, reporter for Fox Sports News, came to Signal and spoke about how he became a reporter for Fox Sports, the different opportunities and challenges in sports journalism and the best ways to get experience when you're starting out.

Chris worked in a variety of roles in sports journalism prior to starting with Fox Sports, including freelancing with Channel 7 for major sporting events like the Australian Open.

This workshop was part of the Signal workshop series. The Young Journo workshops bring journalists working in the Australian media to Signal, to talk to young people about working in journalism.
